What’s the America’s Cup? That’s the same question I had in 2014 when Bermuda was announced as the location for its 35th World Series event which took place this summer. For over 150 years, international sailing teams have been competing for possession of the exclusive Americas Cup trophy – an immaculate figure made of silver which isn’t to be touched by bare hands. It travels in its own Luis Vuitton case and is normally handled with care by two guards wearing white gloves.

The America’s Cup Village (AC) opened up in June where hundreds of spectators watched a series of sailing regattas for about one month, while participating in some of the attractions the village had to offer. There were specially themed days like women’s day, and concerts featuring artists like NeYo and Kes. The event was covered nationally by NBC Sports.

My time in the AC village was well spent – visiting the Bermuda tourism booth where I graciously received a Rum Swizzle flavored lip balm, sitting comfortably under an umbrella on an extremely comfortable bean bag chair on blue turf and enjoying a cool bubbly beverage at the Moet bar.
